Tires Can Help With Your Need For Speed

If you are looking for the easiest way to increase the speed on your car, do not overlook your tires. You can spend a small fortune on nitrous oxide systems, suspension kits, and other parts to increase speed but if you don't have tires that can handle the stress this upgrades bring then they won't do you any good. In addition, the right tire can actually increase the horsepower of your car further increasing your top speed. When buying new tires, here are a few things you need to know.

All-Season Tires

All-season tires are designed for a family car with family driving. Even if you buy the high-performance version they are not going to increase your speed. In order for the tire to be safe to drive on ice, the tire does not grip the road as well. You get better traction on ice but not so much on a clear road. In addition, the tread on these tires is deep. Sure they will last longer but that means there is less of the tire touching the ground. This not only does not increase speed but decreases gas mileage too.

High-Performance Tires

High-performance tires that are not labeled as all-season have less of a tread so more of the tire is in contact with the road. The tread is enough to keep from hydroplaning on a wet pavement but does not offer a lot of grip to the road. The combination of low road grip and more surface contact can improve the horsepower of the vehicle. However, be careful going around corners at high speed or you can spin out and crash. Just remember, they are not going to last as long as a set of all-season tires and will cot more.

Sticky Tires

If you are going to be riding off-road and need more speed, sticky tires are the way to go. These tires are made with a soft rubber compound that grips the ground. They have a shallower tread to allow more contact with the ground too. This equates to better horsepower and better traction. You can go around curves and corners and not spin out.

While sticky tires are not for general driving on the road, having a set around for those days you need to push the limits of your vehicle can be fun. All-season tires belong on the family car. To give you a bit of the speed you desire while driving to work or on a joy ride, high-performance tires from Extreme Wheels can take the edge off.
